Packaging design · From concept to carton
Packaging design services for UK businesses.
Custom box design that brings product fit, brand identity and production planning together.
From structural packaging design and custom dielines to packaging artwork and 3D mock-ups, Healey Packaging helps UK businesses develop their next pack. Start with a product, an existing box or artwork that needs preparing for print.
Already have artwork? We can discuss the checks and preparation your project needs.
Start where you are
Packaging design support, built around your brief.
Packaging design combines the physical structure of a pack with its printed presentation. Choose support around the work you have already completed.
Structural packaging design
Develop the size, opening method, closures and internal support around product fit and packing requirements.
- Box style and internal dimensions
- Dieline, folds and glue areas
- Inserts, clearances and assembly
Packaging artwork & branding
Adapt your brand assets to the selected structure, with clear product information and artwork positioned around folds and cuts.
- Panel layout and visual hierarchy
- Colour, imagery and typography
- Print and finishing layers
3D mock-ups & prototypes
Use digital previews and, where specified, physical samples to review presentation, fit and assembly before approval.
- Artwork and dieline review
- 3D visualisation for presentation
- Prototype planning and refinement
The deliverables depend on the agreed brief. A digital mock-up, a structural sample and a printed proof serve different purposes; confirm which your project needs.
Different products. Different structures.
Custom box design for the way you sell.
Retail presentation, ecommerce delivery and gifting place different demands on a pack. The format is a starting point; dimensions, board and artwork need to work together.
A clear route forward
Your packaging design process, step by step.
Resolve the structure before committing artwork to a final dieline. Agree the relevant checks before manufacture.
See the manufacturing process ↗Define the brief
Share product dimensions and weight, sales channel, quantity, packing method and artwork status. Flag fragile areas and special handling needs.
Develop the structure
Review the box format, material, clearances and inserts. Prepare the dieline around the proposed construction.
Prepare the presentation
Apply artwork and specify colour and finishes. Review visual placement with a proof or mock-up appropriate to the project.
Review, refine and approve
Complete the agreed sample and artwork checks. Confirm the specification, outstanding changes and production approval.
Make the brief work harder
A clearer brief. A better-defined design project.
A useful quote separates design development from samples, tooling and packaging manufacture. Include the following points in your enquiry.
Starting point
Do you need original artwork, changes to an existing design, a new structure or a technical file review? An artwork check is different from a full design commission.
Files and ownership
Specify the dielines, proof files and editable artwork you need. Confirm file formats, usage rights and source-file handover in the agreed scope.
Revisions and costs
Confirm the number of concepts and revision rounds, what counts as a scope change, and any separate sample or tooling charges.
Timing and approvals
Share your required delivery date. Design time depends on complexity, supplied assets, feedback and sampling; agree a project schedule before committing to a launch.
Looking for design support without a packaging order?
State this in your enquiry so availability, deliverables and fees can be confirmed for your project.
Before production
Packaging proofs and prototypes: what to approve.
Reviewing an image of a box is different from assessing the physical pack. Match the checks to the risk and intended use.
Artwork proof & 3D mock-up
Review layout, panel placement and overall presentation. Screen colours and rendered finishes do not guarantee the printed or physical result.
Structural sample
Check product fit, clearances, folding and opening. A plain sample does not confirm final print colour, finishing or transit performance.
Production approval
Confirm dimensions, board, artwork version, print and finishes. If colour proofs, transit testing or other checks are needed, specify them separately.
Supply approved product wording and required labelling. Artwork placement checks do not replace specialist regulatory review or formal barcode verification.
Design decisions that matter
Bring box structure, materials and print together.
Folding cartons, corrugated mailers and rigid presentation boxes have different construction and production requirements. Product weight, packing, delivery and presentation guide the choice.
Recyclability depends on the complete pack, including coatings, windows, inserts and local collection. If recycled fibre or FSC-certified material is required, request confirmation for the proposed specification.

Ask for examples relevant to your product, box format and intended finish when discussing your brief.
Project questions
Packaging design questions, answered.
Find practical answers about bespoke packaging design, artwork files, development costs and samples.
Have a specific project in mind?
Share your product, quantities and artwork status for guidance on your next step.
Discuss your projectWhat information should I provide?
Share the product dimensions and weight, expected quantity, preferred format, sales channel and target date. Include your artwork status, any inserts or specialist finishes, and how the product will be packed and delivered.
Can you work with our existing artwork or box?
Yes. An existing dieline, artwork file or sample can be the starting point. Explain what needs changing and confirm that you have permission to use any supplied artwork. Structure or board changes may require a revised dieline.
Are artwork checks and packaging design the same?
No. An artwork check reviews supplied files against production requirements. Creating a new visual design or developing a structure involves additional work. Confirm which service and deliverables are included in your quote.
How much does packaging design cost, and how long does it take?
Cost and timing depend on the structure, artwork readiness, concepts, revisions and samples required. Send your brief for project-specific confirmation, with design, sampling, tooling and manufacturing costs distinguished where applicable.
Will I receive a custom dieline and editable artwork?
Dieline preparation is part of the structural support available. Confirm the final files, formats, editable artwork, ownership and handover arrangements in your project scope, particularly if another supplier will manufacture the packaging.
Do I need a sample as well as a digital proof?
A digital proof helps review artwork; a physical sample helps assess fit and assembly. The appropriate checks depend on your project. Confirm sample availability, cost and whether final materials, print or finishes are represented before approving production.
