SBS Board
Smooth white board for premium printed retail packaging.
Double wall tuck top boxes combine reinforced side walls with an easy tuck-top closure, giving heavier or premium products more support while keeping packing, opening and presentation straightforward.
Product details
Double wall tuck top boxes are folding cartons built with reinforced side walls and a top flap that tucks into the box to close it. The doubled wall construction gives the carton more rigidity than a conventional tuck-end box, while the top opening keeps product loading and customer access simple.
They are useful when a standard folding carton feels too light but a heavier presentation box would be unnecessary. Within our packaging box styles library, this structure sits between straightforward tuck cartons and more substantial double-wall tray constructions.
Choose this structure when the product needs better edge and side support but still benefits from a familiar top-opening carton.
Typical applications include:
The important point is product fit. Reinforced walls can improve rigidity, but an oversized box will still allow the contents to move. Fragile or multi-item products may therefore need an insert as well.
The carton is supplied flat. During erection, additional panels fold back on themselves to create double-thickness walls. These reinforced sides help the box resist flexing and keep its shape once loaded.
The upper flap then folds over the opening and tucks into position. No adhesive is normally needed to close the top during everyday packing.
Where products are better loaded or revealed from the front, double wall tuck front boxes use a related reinforced construction but change the opening orientation.
A double wall does more than make the carton feel thicker. Correctly designed folded walls can improve edge rigidity, help the tray remain square and provide a firmer structure around the contents.
That makes this style useful where:
It should not automatically be treated as a shipping box. Heavy, fragile or courier-shipped products still need a structure and board specification suitable for the actual distribution conditions. For products needing reinforcement plus full lid coverage, double wall tray lid boxes provide a separate lid over a reinforced tray.
The right choice depends mainly on how the product is packed and how the customer should open it. A double wall tuck top works well for straightforward top access. double locked wall with lid boxes are worth considering when a lid-style presentation is more appropriate.
For merchandise intended to remain inside its carton on the shelf, double wall with display lid boxes can turn the reinforced structure into a retail display. Lighter products may not need double walls at all. In that case, straight tuck end boxes can provide a simpler, more material-efficient carton.
Before approving the dieline, consider the complete packing process rather than the external dimensions alone.
Check:
The tuck flap needs enough engagement to stay closed without becoming awkward to open. Wall folds also need suitable clearance; overly tight tolerances can make the carton slower to erect.

Generally, yes. Their folded double-layer walls provide greater side and edge rigidity than comparable single-wall folding cartons.
Yes. They can be stored flat and erected when required, which is useful for businesses holding larger packaging quantities.
Yes. Inserts and dividers can hold individual items, reduce internal movement or organise multi-product sets.
The structural side seam may be glued during manufacture, depending on the design, but the tuck-top closure itself is normally closed mechanically.
They can support more demanding products than many standard tuck cartons, but suitability depends on box dimensions, board specification and packed weight. Structural testing is advisable for heavier applications.
