SBS Board
Smooth white board for premium printed retail packaging.
Custom fence partitions separate products inside an outer box using interlocking board cells, helping reduce contact, movement and packing disorder for bottles, jars and other multi-item packs.
Product details
Custom fence partitions are interlocking packaging dividers used inside an outer carton to separate individual products into defined cells. Rather than functioning as a box on their own, horizontal and vertical strips slot together to form a grid around bottles, jars, glassware and other products packed in multiples.
Their main purpose is straightforward: keep neighbouring products apart and organise them inside the shipping or retail carton. Fence partitions are one of the internal structures within our packaging box styles library and can be developed around the dimensions and layout of the actual products being packed.
Partitions are useful when several products share one outer box and direct product-to-product contact needs to be reduced. Common applications include:
For bottles in particular, the cell dimensions should restrict excessive lateral movement without creating a fit so tight that packing becomes slow. Where bottles also need an integrated carrying structure, glass carrier boxes may be a more appropriate complete packaging format.
Individual strips are die-cut with slots at predetermined positions. During assembly, one set of strips crosses another, forming a grid of individual cells. The layout can be designed for:
Unlike moulded inserts, the partition does not necessarily hold every surface of the product. Its role is primarily to separate items and control sideways movement. For applications where products need to sit within shaped openings rather than grid cells, punch partition boxes offer a different retention method.
The outer carton, product and partition should be designed as one system. Simply adding dividers to an existing box can leave too much clearance or create pressure against the products. Before producing the partition, check:
Glass containers may need additional cushioning where impact protection is required. A paperboard partition separates products, but it should not automatically be treated as sufficient protection for every fragile-item distribution environment.
The two structures solve related but different packing problems. A fence partition creates cells using intersecting strips. It works well when several products need to stand alongside one another. A punch partition uses cut openings or retaining areas to locate products at defined points. Our display boxes with punch partition are particularly useful where organised product retention also needs to form part of the retail presentation. The right option depends on product shape, weight, required visibility and how the pack will be filled.
Yes. Because the partition sits inside another carton, it can be developed to work with several outer structures. For example, products needing stronger bottom support may use partitions inside 1-2-3 bottom tuck top boxes. Presentation sets may instead use a reinforced tray such as double wall tray lid boxes where the internal layout and opening experience are more important. This flexibility makes fence partitions useful when the same separation principle needs to be adapted across different packaging formats.

They divide an outer carton into individual cells, helping separate bottles, jars, glassware and other products packed together.
They can reduce sideways movement when correctly sized, although additional cushioning may be required for fragile products or demanding transit conditions.
Yes. Cell dimensions and the number of compartments can be developed around the products and outer carton.
They can be supplied in a space-efficient format for assembly during packing, depending on the required configuration.
They are a type of internal packaging component, but unlike shaped inserts, fence partitions primarily use intersecting strips to create separate cells.
