What Is a Cali Pack?

In packaging terms, “Cali pack” commonly describes the small, highly branded pouch format associated with colourful graphics, compact pack sizes and resealable closures. The format itself is simply packaging. What can legally be packed, labelled, sold or promoted in it depends on the product and the applicable UK rules.

Don’t Let the Zip Fight With the Artwork

Moving artwork a few millimetres during pre-production is straightforward. Discovering after printing that a headline disappears into the closure area is considerably less useful.

For repeat ranges, keeping the same structural template while changing the graphics can also make new editions easier to manage.

Flexible Packaging with Material-Based Barrier Performance

Appearance is only one part of flexible packaging. Where the legal product being packed is sensitive to moisture, air, light or external odours, the material construction should be chosen for that requirement.

Different materials provide different barrier characteristics. A metallic-looking pouch should not automatically be assumed to provide a particular level of protection simply because it resembles another pack.

Printed Packs Need Space for Required Information

Highly illustrated packaging can become crowded quickly. Before filling every panel with graphics, reserve the areas needed for product identification, quantity, business details, batch information, warnings or other information applicable to the product.

The exact requirements depend on what you intend to sell. We can manufacture the packaging around supplied artwork, but the business placing the product on the market remains responsible for ensuring its labelling and claims meet the rules applying to that product.

“Certified Cali Packs” Needs a Clear Meaning

Certification should never be used as a vague marketing claim. A material, manufacturing process or supplier may hold a particular certification, but that does not automatically make every finished pack “certified” for every possible use.

If your procurement team requires specific material documentation or certification, tell us what standard is required. We can then establish whether an appropriate specification and supporting documentation are available. This is more reliable than printing an unsupported certification claim onto the pouch.
