SBS Board
Smooth white board for premium printed retail packaging.
Full flap auto bottom packaging combines a fast-forming pre-glued base with overlapping bottom panels for added support, making it practical for brands packing heavier or densely packed retail products at volume.
Product details
A full flap auto bottom is a folding carton structure with a pre-glued automatic base and extended bottom flaps that overlap when the box is erected. The base forms as the flat carton is opened, while the additional flap coverage helps distribute the load across the bottom of the pack.
It is useful when a standard folding carton needs a more supportive base without adding a slow manual locking sequence. You can compare it with other automatic and locking constructions in our packaging box styles library.
This structure is worth considering when packing speed and bottom support are both important.
Typical applications include:
Actual suitability depends on the box dimensions, board specification, packed weight and distribution conditions. The structure should therefore be tested with the intended contents before a production run.
The bottom panels are folded and glued during manufacture. When an operator opens the flat carton, the connected base panels move into position and lock into their erected form. The full flap arrangement increases the amount of board covering the bottom compared with simpler automatic-base configurations. This can provide better load distribution and reduce weak areas beneath the product.
No separate bottom-gluing step is normally required during packing because the automatic base has already been glued during carton manufacture. For lighter products where this additional flap coverage is unnecessary, tuck end auto bottom boxes provide a simpler auto-bottom alternative.
The biggest operational difference is assembly. A 1-2-3 bottom tuck top box uses bottom flaps that must be folded together manually in sequence. This mechanical lock can provide useful base support but adds an assembly step for every carton.
A full flap auto bottom arrives pre-glued and forms as the box is opened. For high-volume packing lines, this can reduce repetitive handling and improve packing efficiency. For lower volumes, the additional conversion involved in an automatic base may not always be necessary.
The full flap is not simply an extra panel for appearance. It changes how the product load is carried across the bottom of the carton.
Depending on the dieline, it can help provide:
However, a full flap auto bottom should not automatically be treated as a corrugated shipping box. Secondary transit packaging may still be required depending on the product and distribution route.
Automatic bottoms depend on accurate dimensions and correct loading. Before approving the dieline, consider:
If bottles or several small items are packed together, custom fence partitions can help separate products and reduce direct contact inside the outer carton. A physical sample packed with the actual contents is recommended where base performance is critical.

It is a folding carton with a pre-glued automatic base and extended overlapping bottom flaps designed to provide additional coverage and support.
The base forms automatically as the carton is opened, so operators do not need to complete a 1-2-3 locking sequence during packing.
Yes. The cartons can remain flat for storage even though the bottom has been pre-glued during manufacture.
It can provide greater bottom support than lighter carton structures, but suitability depends on dimensions, board specification, packed weight and handling conditions.
Yes. Inserts and dividers can be designed around bottles, jars, components or multiproduct arrangements.
