SBS Board
Smooth white board for premium printed retail packaging.
Educational toy packaging is empty, custom-made packaging for learning toys, puzzles and activity kits. At Healey Packaging, we develop printed boxes around the pieces your set contains and how buyers will remove and repack them. A counting kit, for example, may need separate spaces for cards, counters and its instruction booklet. Choose custom dimensions, suitable board and printed artwork to present the contents clearly. We offer no minimum order quantity, so you can order packaging for a new kit, a revised edition or an established product.
Product details
Start with everything that needs to go inside. Alongside the largest toy component, include the full card stack, folded board, booklet and any separate containers. Send the total piece count and packed weight so the layout reflects the whole kit.
Specify usable internal length × width × depth separately from the finished outside measurements. Insert walls, folds and lifting space all affect the room available. An A5 booklet gives us one item to fit; it does not determine the finished box size.
For sets intended to stay in their packaging, check the layout after opening. Pieces should have a practical place to return once temporary wrapping has been removed. A tight first-pack layout may be awkward to repeat at home or in a classroom.
A folding carton can suit a light learning kit with a small number of components. White solid bleached sulphate (SBS) paperboard provides a smooth surface for illustrations and product details. A tuck-end structure with suitable card support is a starting option; check the loaded base and closure before approval.
For puzzles or educational games, consider a lift-off lid-and-base box with an organised tray. Our rigid presentation packaging provides another construction route. Wrapped rigid board gives the box a firm structure for storage, while a removable lid provides access to the set. Check that the lid stays in place during handling and lifts off without excessive force.
Larger or heavier STEM kits may need corrugated board, which has fluting between its liners. The flute, board grade and internal supports should match the packed weight and handling conditions. Our packaging materials guide explains these construction differences.
Kraft paperboard offers a brown surface where that suits the artwork. Check colours on the proposed stock, as the same design can look different on white board.
Card trays and dividers can separate activity pieces from the instruction booklet. Plan finger access so users can lift a card stack or reach a small component without tipping everything out. Where suitable, a booklet pocket can keep instructions apart from loose pieces.
Printed labels or a simple repacking diagram can show where each item belongs. Pair colour coding with words or numbers so colour is not the only guide. For kits containing liquids or powders, allow space for suitable primary containers; card compartments alone do not provide containment.
We offer CMYK printing, spot-colour options and selected finishes for branded educational toy packaging. Give the product name, kit version and contents a clear reading order. Supply approved age and use information with your artwork, keeping essential text clear of folds, glue areas and cuts.
Matt or gloss treatments change the surface appearance. Review small text and diagrams on the chosen board, especially where reflections could make details harder to read. Foil, embossing or spot UV can highlight a title or logo when the design calls for it.
An optional contents map inside the lid can help identify the pieces. Keep it specific to the edition being packed, including any accessories shown in illustrations.
Digital proofs and 3D visuals help you review artwork and panel placement. Physical sampling is available on request. Confirm the sample format, charges and the materials and finishes it includes. A structural sample can help assess fit, folding, opening and assembly.
Use the complete set to review removal, repacking and closure. If the box will be kept for storage, repeat these checks to look for worn folds, loose tray sections and closures that become difficult to use.
If colour or a finish needs physical approval, ask whether a printed sample on the proposed board is available and what it will represent. A screen preview cannot confirm these physical details.
A retail or storage box may also need a corrugated shipping outer and cushioning. Discuss the filled pack and delivery route separately. Transit or toy-safety testing is not an assumed part of sampling.
Our structural design and dieline support covers box layout, inserts and artwork preparation. The artwork check is free. Your quotation defines additional design work, revisions, sampling, tooling and whether editable design files are included.
For folding or corrugated cartons, discuss flat-packed supply and assembly requirements. With a standard rigid lid-and-base box, plan storage around the built box. Confirm whether boxes arrive flat or assembled and whether inserts are separate or pre-fitted.
If you need the kits packed into the boxes, confirm whether that service is available and included in the quotation. Upload reference images through the quote form. Email print-ready PDF, AI or PSD artwork to sales@healeypackaging.co.uk with your enquiry reference. Record the approved kit version, layout and artwork for repeat orders.
Production takes 7–10 working days after artwork approval. We supply the UK and USA, with free delivery of your packaging order to both, including all US states. Healey covers applicable import duties and taxes; transit time is separate from production.

It may, if the largest set fits and smaller sets have suitable support. Compare each version’s contents before sharing a box size. Extra empty space or a different booklet can change the insert and packing layout.
A removable tray can be considered during structural design. Specify whether it needs to hold pieces outside the box. Its stiffness, lifting points and fit will need review for that use.
Only if the box and insert are designed around its assembled size. Tell us whether users will store the finished model or dismantle it. The original component layout may not accommodate a built model.
The order is for empty packaging. Toys, activity cards, game boards, booklets and educational content are not included by default. Printing supplied instructions on a box panel is different from producing a separate booklet.
Treat a box used as a play surface, model or game component as a separate development brief. Its intended use needs assessment beyond ordinary packaging design. Artwork checking does not establish suitability as a toy.
